Total Lack of Clouds: Don’t Let the Weatherman Stop You from Having Fun!

For the first few weeks of our summer season, the Weather Network has repeatedly said that it is going to be overcast or rainy for days on end. Although sometimes that has been true, there have been countless days when it hasn’t been, and it instead turns out to be a beautiful day. Don’t waste a day on the river just because of a slight chance of clouds!

Check the likelihood of precipitation by the hour, not by the day. Oftentimes, the chance of it raining at all during the day is the first thing you will see, but after further inspection, you can see the likelihood per hour. Sometimes the chance of rain is only 5-10%, or even 0%, for the hours of your booking. Don’t trust the report at first glance!

Give us a call at the Tube Shack to ask how the weather is here; Lake Cowichan is in a valley and often has completely different weather from our neighbouring city, Duncan, which is only 20 minutes away. We are happy to answer simple questions like how the weather is if it means you will be coming to float with us! We promise we will tell you the truth and let you know if there is sun or if it is just cold, cloudy, or raining.

As well, check our Instagram or Facebook to see if we have posted a photo of the weather on the days it calls for cloudiness. This will give you a better view of what the weather actually looks like and help you determine if you want to float down the river that day or move it to another day.

On a positive note, for the days it does end up being overcast, more clouds often lower the chances of getting a sunburn! We also provide complimentary river-safe (mineral-based) sunscreen at the Tube Shack. Using sunscreen and taking advantage of a slightly lower UV index will prevent overheating and sunburn. Remember to always wear sunscreen and stay hydrated!

Get outside and enjoy the summer days while we still have them. Don’t miss out on our beautiful float down the river because of a slight chance of clouds!
